Come for the Party. Stay for the ride.
The Hoot Steel was designed with one goal in mind: Fun. Yes, with a capital F. This is a 140mm travel hardtail that brings the party to every line on the trail. The frame is the classic 4130 chromoly steel with custom tubing based on size to ensure the same smooth, comfortable, fun ride quality regardless of size. The Hoot Steel has fun engrained into the geometry, with a slack head tube angle, steep seat tube angle, low bottom bracket drop, and short chain stays. The result is a hardtail that balances the rider for confident riding on the steepest descents, while mixing in nimble handling for the trails that keep you on your toes. When everyone at the trailhead calls it a day, the Hoot Steel is ready for another lap.
BUILD YOUR HOOT STEEL
Otso bikes are available to purchase here on our website or with our network of Otso dealers. Our Custom Bike Configurator allows you to select most component options on your bike, including drivetrain, wheelset, tires, handlebars, seatpost, anodized accent color option, and more. The Hoot Steel is also available as a frame if you already have parts ready to go at home. When an order is placed, the Otso team builds the bike based on your custom specs and ships it to you. Home assembly is as simple as putting on the wheels and straightening the handlebars. We’re happy to talk through options to help you build the Hoot Steel that is perfect for you and your riding style.
Otso has a small (but growing!) network of bike shops that sell our bikes. Click the button to the right to see a map of all Otso dealers. If there is not one in your area, you can still build and order any of our bikes right here on our website. Give us a shout at sales@otsocycles.com with any questions.

Playful Geometry
The geometry of Hoot Steel has one goal: fun. The 425mm chainstays are core to Hoot Steel because they add nimble, playful handling. The 65º head tube and 76º seat tube angles pair for a balanced riding position, while that slack head tube angle, long reach, and low bottom bracket drop of 60mm allow for confident downhill riding on aggressive trails. A shorter standover and lower top tube allow for longer travel dropper posts and more creative, playful riding without the bike getting in the way. Every detail of Hoot Steel contributes to a bike that will bring the party to any trail ride.

Steel Frame
The steel tubing used in the Hoot Steel frame is 4130 with custom tubing based on frame size. The steel is smooth, durable, and comfortable. Each tube set was made specifically for its frame size to ensure the same ride quality, regardless of size.

Maximum Dropper Travel
While head tube angles and fork travel steal the hardtail headlines, we need to talk about dropper post insertion. The Hoot Steel frame was designed to allow you to run the longest dropper post possible. This is made possible by the low standover height, seat tube extension above the top tube, straight tubing until just above the bottom bracket, and a clever bottle cage mount. Go as big as your style allows.

Evolved Bottle Mount
A design challenge of a mountain bike with a lower standover height is adding a bottle mount to the relatively short seat tube. With a standard mount, the bolts would limit the dropper post travel because the dropper post lower is not able to extend below the top bolt. The evolved mount on the Hoot Steel allows maximum dropper post travel while having an option on the seat tube for a second bottle cage or gear mount.
UDH Dropouts
The Hoot Steel is compatible with all drivetrains with its UDH dropouts. The Custom Bike Builder has options for SRAM Transmission and Shimano drivetrains.
140mm or 150mm Travel
We designed the Hoot Steel with a 140mm travel suspension fork in mind. It can also run a 150mm fork. We don't recommend going any bigger or smaller because it would significantly alter geometry.
Fun Prioritized
Eveyrthing about the Hoot Steel was designed for fun on any trail, on any line. Playful geometry, healthy tire clearance, durable frame, big travel fork. The gang's all here.
Ample Clearance
Tires need to meet demands of the trail for traction, stability, and comfort. Hoot Steel can fit 29" x 2.6" tires.
